Cancer had done its best to destroy the Lorenzo family, to separate them and leave them feeling adrift. Yet the family united against it and prevailed, not one time but three. As a 3-time Stage 4 cancer survivor, Carlos Lorenzo wanted to redirect that incredible family resilience into something they could build together. Something that could anchor them in the community they love.
“When my cancer came back a third time, I had an entirely different experience battling it in the Keys compared to my first battles in Miami,” Carlos explains. “I couldn’t believe the support my family and I received. It wasn’t just us against cancer– our community had our backs.”
His daughter, Amanda, also credits the peaceful and beautiful surroundings of the Keys for aiding her father’s recovery and maintaining her family’s strength. “The sea air and natural beauty breathed life into us and gave us the energy to continue.”
Thus, when they decided to dive into a business venture as a family, they knew they wanted it to be something that worked with the community and promoted the beauty of the Keys. Keys Deep Apparel was the perfect fit not only because of its quality products but also because the brand is engrained with the Keys lifestyle and connected to the community.
Keys Deep is known for its practical yet comfortable and attractive apparel that perfectly suits the Keys lifestyle. Their UPF-protected performance wear is made in the USA and utilizes a special sublimation process that greatly elevates the quality. It’s breathable, comfortable, and durable while showcasing local designs.
With their community focus, Keys Deep collaborates with two local artists to capture the essence of the Keys in their designs. Pasta Panteleo and Sam Milazzo both have collections with Keys Deep, which they are still expanding.
The newest edition in Sam Milazzo’s collection is a charitable collaboration that benefits Captain Kiki, a local charter captain who is battling Stage 3 inoperable pancreatic cancer. Captain Kiki is undergoing chemotherapy and treatments, which Carlos is all too familiar with.
“My family and I experienced firsthand the financial, physical, and emotional tolls cancer inflicts,” Carlos says. “The Captain Kiki shirt is our small way to help with the big obstacles his family is facing.”
A large portion of the sales of the specially-designed Captain Kiki long-sleeve shirt goes toward fighting his battle. It is one of three charitable collaborations Keys Deep promotes. The other two specially-designed shirts benefit the well-loved Marrvelous Pet Rescue in Key Largo and the Sebastian Strong Foundation, which fights childhood cancer.
Keys Deep also works with many local organizations to promote their cause, team, events, and more. They customize any design, such as the shirts they created for the Coral Shores Ladies Lacrosse team and several local fishing teams, tournaments, and captains.
In addition to these locally designed products and services, Keys Deep has expanded its inventory to include some of the favorite brands Keys people love. They now offer Aftco, Marsh Wear, Bahio & Costa Sunglasses, Fishe, Spacefish Army, Stream 2 Sea Sun Screen, and more.
All is now available at Keys Deep’s new retail location at 81650 Overseas Highway in Islamorada, and other retail locations such as Robbie’s, FBO, and more. The Keys Deep store is open daily, managed by Carlos’s daughter, Amanda, and wife, Belkis. Carlos continues his work as a local real estate agent with American Caribbean Real Estate while helping to run Keys Deep.
Being anchored in family and community, Keys Deep will continue to expand and offer what their customers want and need most. Visit KeysDeep.com to shop online.
