The hurricane was about to hit. People were rushing to buy water, gas, and plywood. Rushing to shutter their doors and windows. Rushing to protect their homes and their families.
It was a surreal experience for Pete LaSpina, who had just moved to Florida from the Northeast. He was thrown into the throngs of rushing people, and he did not like the experience one bit.
Pete had thought he was ahead of the game when he moved here in 2019. After all, he had moved to Palm Beach for a job with Wright’s Impact Window & Door and had immediately installed its products on his new home.
“Thankfully, I had the peace of mind that came with impact windows and doors, but I was still a newbie when it came to hurricanes,” Pete explains. “I was still rushing around for the smaller details that I had naively overlooked.”
Pete was on a sharp learning curve, among many others rushing around due to naivety or simple procrastination.
“What’s interesting is I wasn’t rushing around in fear. I actually like extreme storms, so the storm itself isn’t what left me with a terrible feeling. It was the feeling of being unprepared. That terribly frustrating feeling of ‘should’ve, would’ve, could’ve.”
Thankfully, Hurricane Dorian never made landfall, giving Pete the chance to learn from his mistakes before the next storm.
“Even though that hurricane never hit, I had an entirely new appreciation for hurricane preparedness. It made me realize how important my job really is in helping my neighbors protect their homes and their peace of mind.”
Since joining the Wright’s team 6 years ago, Pete has worked as a project manager, product specialist, and assistant sales manager. His experience in these departments made him an obvious choice for a promotion to Executive Vice President of Sales.
As Executive VP of Sales, Pete enjoys overseeing a team whose main goal is to help homeowners, teaching them about the benefits of impact windows and doors, not just in regard to hurricane preparedness but overall savings and peace of mind.
“When I first installed impact windows on my home, I couldn’t sleep. I know that seems counterintuitive,” Pete laughs, “but I grew up in the Bronx. It was so quiet in my bedroom, I had to crack the window open to fall asleep to the city noises I was used to.”
Noise reduction is only one of the many bonus perks of impact windows and doors. Other perks include less chance of break-ins, significantly lower energy bills, and significantly lower insurance deductibles.
“One of our biggest selling points has always been lower insurance deductibles, but these days, insurance companies are actually dropping clients left and right. We are working hard to help our clients keep the insurance they desperately need.”
Keys homeowners are at particular risk of being dropped by their insurance since they reside in the highest hurricane-risk area. They are being forced to rush around for solutions.
“We all know rushing isn’t the Keys way,” Pete says. “As a city boy, I admire how the Keys residents take a laid back approach to life, and it’s just wrong to impede on that peaceful lifestyle. That’s why Wright’s is stepping up and doing the necessary rushing for them.”
The Wright’s team handles everything from start to finish, from the first walkthrough to permitting to installation (including shutter removal, stucco patching, and more). They are also up to date on the current tax rebates and incentives.
