Monty Python’s Edukational Show Presented by The Key Players

“Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!”… but you should expect Monty Python in the Keys. The Key Players are bringing the absurdist brilliance of Monty Python to the Murray Nelson Cultural Center with Monty Python’s Edukational Show, a riotous collection of sketches, songs, and animations. Whether you’re a die-hard Python fan or new to the comedy troupe’s unique brand of humor, this production promises a night of unbridled fun and much-needed levity.

Monty Python’s Edukational Show takes the most famous sketches from the hilarious 1970s television series Monty Python’s Flying Circus and transforms them into a stage production with some modern twists. Audiences can expect the trademark Python style: clever wordplay, surreal situations, and comedy that defies convention. The show’s structure as a series of vignettes means the energy never stops, with cast members appearing in multiple roles throughout the evening.

A Show That Comes at the Perfect Time

Director Michele Zofchak, well-known throughout the Upper Keys as Ms. Z, believes this production comes at exactly the right time. “I think we’re all in need of a good laugh right now,” she explains, “and that’s what this show is all about—just having fun.”

For months, members of The Key Players—ranging in age from 16 to 70—have dedicated themselves to mastering the Python style of comedy. This intergenerational cast brings fresh perspectives to the classic material, with Ms. Z approaching the beloved sketches with new eyes, Moshe Morgan choreographing dance numbers, and cast members pitching in on everything from props to performances. The positive energy of the production has become infectious.

“No matter how anyone feels when they arrive at rehearsal, they always leave feeling better,” Ms. Z notes. “Our audience will get that same uplifting experience.”

Building Community Through Theater

Ms. Z, now in her 27th year as a teacher in Monroe County, exemplifies the collaborative spirit that makes Upper Keys theater thrive. Currently directing both Monty Python’s Edukational Show for The Key Players and Matilda Jr. for the Key Largo School Drama Club, she moves seamlessly between productions, nurturing talent at every age level. This cross-pollination of programs creates a tight-knit theatrical community where everyone supports each other—the Key Largo School Drama Club will be selling concessions at the Monty Python performances, with all proceeds going back to support their upcoming April production of Matilda Jr. (April 17-19 and 24-26).

The Key Players have been a cornerstone of Upper Keys culture since 1978, producing 2-3 shows annually and bringing quality theater to the local community. Several of Ms. Z’s former high school students have returned to the stage with The Key Players, proving the lasting impact of arts education and creating a beautiful theatrical legacy that continues to grow.

Laugh, Quote, Repeat

Monty Python’s Edukational Show offers the carefree entertainment that so many are craving—pure, unadulterated comedy that brings people together. Come support local theater, witness the next generation performing alongside seasoned veterans, and rediscover why Monty Python’s comedy has endured for over five decades. It’s sure to be a night you won’t forget—and one you’ll be quoting for weeks to come!
